MLB Prospect Highlights: 10/29-11/5

Honolulu Sharks

  • Van Pope (3B, ATL) went 1-for-13 on the week with thee strikeouts. That gives Pope one hit in his last 26 at-bats. His Hawaii stat line now reads .167/.239/.250.

North Shore Honu (name means green turtle)

  • Koby Clemens (3B, HOU) had his best week yet, going 6-16 with a triple. Clemens is now 16-for-70 overall (.229).

Waikiki Beach Boys

  • Dexter Fowler (OF, COL) went just 3-for-11 on the week. Fowler has cooled mightily. His batting average is under .300 (.273).
  • Mark Minicozzi (3B, SF) went 6-for-18 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. One of the better all-around hitters in the league to date – he’s 2nd in the league in OPS – Minicozzi looks like he could someday be a utility infielder for the Giants.
  • Henricus Vanden Hurk (P, FLA) gave up five runs in 5.0 innings while striking out six and walking two on October 29th, but he followed that outing up with 5.0 three-hit shutout innings (7K/2BB) last Saturday. Vanden Hurk now has a 1.23 WHIP and 5.19 ERA.

West Oahu Cane Fires

  • John Mayberry Jr. (OF, TEX) is finally starting to show why he was drafted in the first round out of high school and college – 28th overall and 19th overall respectively. Mayberry Jr. went 8-for-17 with three doubles and a home run last week. He’s been one of the most powerful hitters on the island (.604 SLG).
  • Joba Chamberlain (P, NYY) continued to pitch well, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out five and walking none in 5.0 innings of work. His 0.82 WHIP ranks among the league leaders and his ERA is down to 2.51.
