With the 2007 MLB Draft in the past and next year’s installment a mere 11 months away, it’s never too early to get a head start on evaluating a new class of talent. To make sure that college baseball’s presence is felt year-round this offseason, Project Prospect will preview the nation’s best collegiate talent by presenting College Prospect Rankings approximately every week. Each week will offer a longer list of rankings, as we build up to our weekly updated in-season Top 25 College Prospect Rankings.
7. Tyson Ross, RHP, CAL (4/22/87)
Tyson Ross has the frame of a pure power pitcher. While authority may reside in Ross' low 90's fastball, the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder actually fuels his dominance with an impressive off-speed arsenal. A native of Oakland, Calif., Ross' curveball-changeup combo yielded 120 strikeouts versus 39 walks in 115.2 IP, creating a sturdy foundation to post a 2.49 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 2007. With strong command of the three valuable weapons at his disposal, Tyson Ross has solidified himself as one of college baseball's premier starting pitching prospects.
