Prospect Injury Report

May 20, 2009

This is not an exhaustive report. We aim to cover substantial injuries to elite prospects.

New injuries

Wilfredo Boscan is on the 7-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his side.

Brandon Erbe has not pitched since April 29th due to shoulder weakness.

Jeremy Hellickson is on the 7-day DL with a shoulder injury.

Josh Reddick is on the 7-day DL with a strained oblique and will miss a couple of weeks.

Jose Tabata will miss a couple more weeks with a strained right hamstring after injuring it on April 29th.

Chris Valaika is out 8-10 weeks with broken bone in his hand.

Nick Barnese who has been sidelined with shoulder tendonitis is expected to join the Bowling Green Hot Rods by May 25th, according to a source close to Barnese.

Returned from injuries

Gordon Beckham did not play from May 7th to May 17th due to a strained abdominal muscle.

Matt Antonelli has returned from a rare knee/leg injury. Since returning he has gone 5-for-33 with two doubles and has 3:3 BB: K ratio.

Aaron Cunningham has returned from a separated shoulder. He has hit 9-for-24 with two home runs and five doubles while posting a 0:5 BB: K ratio. He has also since been called-up to the majors.

Kellen Kulbacki has returned from a right shoulder injury.

Still Injuried

Lorenzo Cain (torn PCL), Ivan De Jesus (broken tibia), Kelvin De La Cruz (elbow), Logan Morrison (wrist), Carlos Triunfel (broken fibula), Jordan Walden (right elbow inflammation), Casper Wells (broken hamate bone), and Ryan Westmoreland (shoulder surgery).

Jemile Weeks has not played all season. We believe the A’s are being cautious with a hip flexor injury that began bothering him last season. Weeks participated in minor league spring training games in March, but he was not running out balls. We also saw him participating in slow-paced fielding drills.
