Prospect Injury Report

The report is not exhaustive. We aim to cover substantial injuries to elite prospects.

New Injuries

Michael Taylor has a strained oblique and has been out since August 15.

Nick Weglarz has been out with a shin bruise since August 14th.

Ryan Westmoreland may have broken his collar bone after running into an outfield wall on August 29th.

Freddie Freeman has not palyed since August 22nd due to a hand injury.

Wilson Ramos has missed most of 2009 with a torn hamstring and broken finger.

Returned From Injuries

Jason Heyward did not play from August 25th through the 31st due to a bruised heel.

Yonder Alonso returned to Double-A on August 24th. A broken hamate bone knocked him out from June 18th to August 4th and from August 4th to August 17th.

Eric Hosmer did not play from August 18th to August 25th and again until September 6th. Hosmer had lasik eye surgery on August 28th to correct astigmatism.

Cameron Maybin has returned from a sore back, and is now the starting center fielder for the Marlins. He was sidelined from August 2nd through the 15th.

Ivan De Jesus has played four games for in the AZL returning on August 25th from a broken tibia (injury from Spring Training).

Mike Moustakas was out from August 19th through 23rd after taking a ground ball off of his head and enduring concussion-like symptoms.

Jenrry Mejia returned on August 12th from a strained finger. The injury sidelined had sidelined him since June 23rd. Conveniently, the said injury allowed him to only add about 30 innings in 2009 to his 2008 regular-season total.

Daryl Jones returned on August 24th from a pulled left quadriceps and knee tendonitis –he had been out since July 10th.

Michael Main returned from a viral infection and has pitched in three games since August 25 but has yet to last longer then 2.0 innings. He had been sidelined since June 7th. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that the infection had been slowing him all season.

Jason Knapp returned on August 11st from shoulder fatigue. He has walked 14.5% of the 55 batter he’s faced since his return/Indian debut (21.8% K). Additionally, Knapp has not pitched since August 26th.

Bryan Anderson returned from a June 25th separated left shoulder to play in the GCL from August 19th to August 27th but has not played since.

Alexander Perez returned from August 1st shoulder soreness on August 22nd.

Max Ramirez has played every day since returning from a June 30th wrist injury on August 10th.

Will Smith returned to pitch on August 14th from a lower back strain that had kept him out since July 12th.

Matt Sweeney returned on August 15th from a hip injury that had kept him out since June 7th. He was dealt to Tampa Bay Rays in the Scott Kazmir trade.

Carlos Triunfel returned on August 25th from a broken fibula. He had been out since April 11th.

Kelvin De La Cruz was out from April 14th through August 17th due to a tweaked elbow.

Zach Braddock returned from a July 7th a shoulder problem on August 17th.

Dallas Buck returned from a June 26th right arm injury to pitch in the GCL but has not pitched more than 2.0 innings in each of his starts for the GCL Reds.

Still Injured

Dellin Betances (elbow injury), Casey Crosby (split finger nail), Fernando Martinez (torn meniscus in his right knee), Brad Mills (bruised ribs), Jesus Montero (fractured middle finger), Jarrod Parker (elbow strain), Brad Suttle (second shoulder surgery), Angel Villalona (strained left quad), Jordan Walden (strained right forearm) and Michael Ynoa (elbow soreness).
